THE ROAD UP

For everyone that followed along on this adventure, THANKS. I dont think I could have done it without you and it for sure would not have been as much fun. Also THANKS for the generous donations to Riders For Health.   $515.33  raised, which will help them reach 2500 people with health care services by motorcycle.

And for all my old friends and family that provided good food, spirits and a place to sleep along the way,  I look forward to seeing you at the Farmhouse in Theta soon. Thanks for the Good Times we had. It made the long trip so much more fun. I have a long list of ideas that I gathered from talking with you that I need to research and follow up on.  ie more adventures!

I rolled into Theta just a few miles shy of 10,000 on this trip. My next one probably wont be that long, but this was a great way to see how vast our country really is and to get to meet a lot of nice people along the way. Please keep in touch and my house is open to you.

Till Next Time

HOME

P1136

After a 12 hr. 598 mi. Night Ride thru Mo. Illinois and Ky. with multiple stops to nap on rest area picnic tables, I am worn out and home. I will try to wrap up the trips ramblings when I can think a little clearer.

NIGHT THINGS

You can see strange things at night. Just take the off ramp going down. 460 mi. last night and tucked in at Independence MO. Nice COOL ride. Repeat TONIGHT.

We have a winner I think. Kim Holly wrote

Hey, I know what the wooden structure w/ car tires on top is!  It's an old fashioned device used by ranchers to make hay stacks-- the precursor to round bales. It's very labor intensive.  The hay is cut and gathered in the field and raised to the top on the far side of the device using ropes and pulleys.  The loose hay drops into the center and is stuffed inside to make a stack of hay.  When they finish a stack, a group of men flip the device down onto its 'back' (the closest side in the photo) so that the tires are on the ground.  Then they lift it by the base opposite the tires, roll it to a new spot, flip it back up, and start a new hay stack. The one I saw was very old and had wooden wheels instead of car tires.  This one must still be used-- hard to believe!  I knew my worthless college degree in farming would come in handy one day!

I was thinking some kind of hay thing but I'm still not sure just how it works. This thing is at least 15 ft high and rolling it over would not be easy even with a BobCat.
Thanks Kim

CLOSING THE GREAT CIRCLE
